Alex Lowery has created a substantial body of work primarily developed from the coastal areas of West Dorset, including the Isle of Portland. This has been the source for his evolving a distinctive, pared down and somewhat abstract style of painting, with a particular stillness and a sense of inner light. More recently he has additionally embarked on a series of paintings inspired by the city of Bath.
A Londoner by birth (1957) he studied at Bath Academy before taking a BA in Fine Art at the Central School of Art in London. He has now lived in Dorset for over twenty years, continuing to find close at hand the material that can be infinitely re-cast as matter for his art.
