All the paintings in this exhibition were painted outdoors in front of the subject and mostly within a short walk of my studio.
When I last showed work at Campden Gallery I was living in south Wales and some of the paintings here date back to that time; images of the suburban estate where I lived.
Since then, we have moved to rural Somerset. For me this was a challenge as I have always felt more at home in towns and cities. The paintings of fields, pylons and footballers reflect this new environment as well as the many hours spent watching my kids play football. During this period, I also began paintings of my rapidly growing children and there is one in this show of my youngest, Caitlin ,when she was 12.
The paintings of Italy were made during a two-week residency at Pignano near Volterra courtesy of the Royal Drawing School.
