Laima Eglite Latvian

"Image is my language (...) I am fascinated by theatre. Therefore I 'play' my paintings."

Born in Riga, Latvia in 1945, Laima Eglite is one of the most versatile artists of her generation, alongside painting she also works in book graphic art and animation. Eglite trained as a professional artist at Janis Rozentäls Riga Secondary Art School and Department of Painting of the Latvian Academy of Art. Duality, formally ranging from use of local spectre hues to nuanced subtlety of half-tones, from a bold brushstroke to a pointillistic pulse, is typical of Laima Eglite's painting, resulting in compositions that are, at times, static and serene and, at other times, powerfully expressive.

Laima Eglite's solo exhibition at the Latvian National Museum of Art in 2009 offered a retrospective overview of the artist's work, spanning almost thirty years of her creative career.

Creative Activities: painting, animation films and book illustrations for children.
Member of the Latvian Artists Society since 1976.
