Born in 1955 in Kingston, Jamaica, David Edmond graduated from Leicester Polytechnic with a BA in Furniture Design in 1979 and from the Royal College of Art in 1995 with an MPhil in Printed Textiles. Previous to 2008, when he started to paint full-time, he ran his own internationally successful printed textile design studio working with many of the world's fashion and home furnishing brands including Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani and Louis Vuitton. In 2016 he completed the Turps Painting Programme, a contemporary painting school run by Marcus Harvey. His work has been exhibited nationally and is in number of private collections and was included in Michael Petry's book, Nature Morte (2013), published by Thames and Hudson.
Edmond's subject matter is generated from material experiences and observations remembered and/or photographed.
David's series of Beach paintings were initially inspired by a visit to Coney Island in New York. Since then he has continued to seek and gain further material and inspiration from the coasts of Italy and north eastern Kent.
His scenes of bathers, punctuated by their beach ephemera, portray the quiet contemplative drama played out on warm summer sands.
